Bottoms Up: Edinburgh’s Secret Drinking Spots

I’m not much of a drinker, but even I like a cheeky cocktail every now and again and well, tis’ the season. I’ve recently discovered three hole-in-the-wall speakeasies in Edinburgh that I wanted to share with you.

Have you ever been to a cocktail bar and watched the barmen whip up a concoction? I usually stare in awe, because that’s talent right there! I love the experience, the experience of taking what could be a mundane autopilot task and making it just that bit more special.

Bramble Bar

Located under an alterations shop, Bramble is probably one of the most popular speakeasies in Edinburgh. With its low lighting and background music, it definitely has character, plus a huge cocktails menu to suit every taste.

Bryant & Mac Private Detectives

If you dig deep on Rose Street you’ll find, Bryant & Mac –  a small, quirky, hole-in-the-wall – literally. You wouldn’t even know it’s there. On my visit, I treated myself to three whisky-based cocktails that were delicious. I honestly felt like Sherlock Holmes, on my next mission with a cocktail in hand.

Panda & Sons

Disguised as a barbershop, Panda & Sons is a whole other world. Head down a couple flights of stairs and push past a bookcase/door, you’re welcomed into what feels like a different time zone as if you’re in a scene from The Great Gatsby. Book early to get a table, or stand at the bar watching the barmen whipping up cocktails – it’s like magic! Also, if you’re feeling a bit peckish, Panda & Sons gives each table a bowl of popcorn #winning. | 79 Queen St, Edinburgh EH2 4NF
