If you know me very well then you’ll know that Christmas is one of favourite times of year (besides my birthday of course!). Everywhere you look, there are lights, presents, smiling faces, festive food, markets and a constant soundtrack of all the best Christmas songs ever made, not to mention Christmas films that we watch every year, no matter how many times you’ve seen them, because, well…Christmas! I wanted to throw together some of my favourites for the festive season. What are you loving?
I was going to choose one film, but it was too difficult to whittle down, so here is a handful.
Elf – I’ve seen this so many times – three times this year in fact. If you don’t watch this and want to run around in circles in a revolving door, are you a Bah Humbug? I love Will Ferrell’s aloof character Buddy. His innocence resonates with me, plus his optimism and Christmas cheer really does put me in the best mood.
The Holiday – I ask everybody, which film they prefer, The Holiday or Love Actually and it really is a mixed bag. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching Love Actually, but I definitely have a soft spot for The Holiday. It’s a cosy, feet up in front of the fire with a hot chocolate kind of film.
Home Alone – FAVE. It’s not Christmas unless you watch Home Alone 1 and 2 with Maculy Culkin. How his mother leaves him two years in a row, I will never understand (social services!), but how he takes on two baddies, eats stacks of ice cream and enjoys watching black and white gangster films is legendary. Merry Christmas ya filthy animals.
I could eat 6 in one go. I went to Ireland at the beginning of the month and my boyfriend’s mum made the best mince pies I’ve ever had in my life. I’d look forward to them all day and on the last day, I even had them for breakfast. Mince pies goals smashed!
I wanted to make some of my own this year from a recipe from Deliciously Ella, but didn’t get round to, so I’m settling for a pack from good old M&S with a dollop of my fave Booja Booja ice-cream on the side.
I love jumpers, but in December a little spruce of my jumper stash is in order. I’m not a huge fan of the tacky Christmas jumper, but each to their own! My favourite jumpers are the ones in Fat Face. They’re cosy, warm and they make a winters day even better with a beautiful, subdued Christmas design.
I’m a big coffee drinker, but in December my drink of choice usually goes to a hot chocolate. There’s something about holding a warm cup of chocolate that makes me feel really festive. I have a blog post coming soon on my favourite hot chocolates in Edinburgh, but I wanted to mention one here. If you’re in town, head to LoveCrumbs and try their festive peppermint white hot chocolate. I had mine with oat milk and I felt a little shiver of Christmas spirit with every sip.
Every year, I look forward to a good, scrumptious Christmas dinner. This year, I’m going to make my dinner completely vegan – and it’s going to be amazing! Deliciously Ella has an amazing Christmas dinner recipe that I’m going to follow, which includes, baked Portobello mushrooms with quinoa, roasted sprouts and parsnips with maple, rosemary roast potatoes and because I love it so much, sage and onion stuffing on the side, all drizzled in an onion gravy. Who wants to come round?
These are just some of my Christmas favourites, what are yours?
